History
Malayatoor Church is considered as one of the seven and a half churches founded by St. Thomas Apostle of Jesus Christ in Kerala. There is an imprint of the feet of St. Thomas on a rock near the Church's surroundings. Notable features here are the Marthoma Mandapam gateway leading to the Church where that the precious relic of Apostle St. Thomas is preserved for the pilgrims and the statue of St. Thomas which is placed above 20 steps - symbolically representing the 20 years of the Apostle's missionary works in India. Malayatoor pilgrimage is reputed to grant spiritual happiness and satisfaction to the devotees. The Church's major festival (Malayatoor Perunal) that falls on the first Sunday after Easter is an occasion cherished by the Christians both in Kerala and India.
