It traces its origin in the preaching of the Apostle St. Thomas, who, according to tradition, came to India in 52 A.D. In the 9th century the patriarch of the Nestorians in Persia sent bishops toIndia. There is a record of an Indian bishop visiting Rome in the early part of the 12thcentury. The Nunciature Chapel The new beautiful mosaic polyptych which adorns the presbytery of the Chapel of the Apostolic Nunciature in Delhi is authored by the Keralite artist and CMI priest Fr. Joy Elamkunnapuzha, assisted by his school of ‘disciples’. It is constituted of five different scenes, all focused and oriented towards the central crucified Christ, a precious bronze sculpture made by the illustrious Italian artist Romano Lucacchini (1938-2006).
